At the Center For Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy (CNWSMT) we believe that a dynamic therapist is one who combines knowledge and excellent bodywork with a deep honoring of the transformational energy of loving touch. Through a comprehensive program of study that carefully balances the art and science of therapeutic massage the program strives to enrich the lives of its students. By empowering students with knowledge and understanding of the human body, they will be able to speak intelligently and professionally to their clients and other health care practitioners about the importance of massage therapy in preventive and palliative care.

An important aspect of being a compassionate body-worker is self-awareness. Our program provides students with the opportunity to grow personally and examine their own relationship to self and others in a supportive environment. They are encouraged to bring mindfulness and awareness to each moment in order to experience their lives more completely. This balancing of body, mind and spirit naturally allows health and wellness to arise.

Our highly trained faculty is deeply committed to creating a safe, nurturing and intimate learning community that honors the diversity and unique gifts that each student possesses. We believe that human beings excel when encouraged to be fully who they are. The process of becoming a massage therapist is a life changing experience that allows individuals to bring their hearts more openly into their work. Our staff maintains high standards of integrity, character, and ethics, while cultivating these qualities in each one of our students.

Founded in 1916, Swedish Institute has the oldest Massage Therapy Program in the country. While the idea of using one's hands as a therapeutic agent of change has only recently received attention from the scientific community, throughout its history Swedish Institute has endeavored to preserve the integrity of this ancient healing art, while also developing standards of practice to meet the demands of modern times.

Its Massage Therapy Program leads to an Associate in Occupational Studies degree. Students can attend classes during morning, afternoon or evening hours. Full-time students attend five classes per week, each class lasting four hours, for a total of 20 hours a week. A part-time option is also available.

The school is located in New York City at 226 West 26th Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. A mid-Manhattan location means that students are surrounded by the energetic confluence of millions of individuals with unique ideas, languages and dreams. These stimulating forces make New York City a wonderful environment for learning. The school occupies three floors of a ten-story building in Chelsea, a neighborhood of mostly low-rise buildings, brownstones, art galleries, restaurants, health food stores and a television studio.

Visitors are welcome to tour the school, observe a class, or attend an Open House or Introductory Workshop. Please contact an Admissions Advisor at 212.924.5900 ext. 125 or email admissions@swedishinstitute.edu to make a reservation for any or all of these options.  Find out more at www.swedishinstitute.eduOur Professional Continuing Education Department sends out its catalog of classes twice a year.   Those interested in continuing education classes held at Swedish Institute can see a listing of current classes and register online at http://www.swedishce.com/.
