AMTA-NY Welcomes You! Learn what our chapter is about.

The AMTA New York Chapter proudly represents a community of over 5,500 massage therapists across the state of New York, forming a dedicated network of professionals committed to excellence in the field of massage therapy. Our mission extends beyond simply supporting massage therapists — we strive to elevate the profession as a whole by promoting the understanding and recognition of massage therapy as a vital component of overall health and wellness.

The mission of the New York Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association is;

Serving Massage Therapists while advancing the art, science, and practice of massage therapy.

Our Mission and Goals

At the core of our mission is the belief that massage therapy plays a crucial role in maintaining good health and enhancing the body’s natural healing processes. We work to integrate massage therapy into mainstream healthcare by fostering collaboration with other healthcare professionals and advocating for its inclusion as a complementary therapy in both preventive and rehabilitative care.

Professional Standards and Ethics

We are deeply committed to upholding the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical practice. Through the development and enforcement of a strong code of ethics, we ensure that our members practice with integrity, respect, and professionalism. This commitment builds trust within the public and healthcare communities, reinforcing the credibility and value of massage therapy as a profession.

Certification

To promote excellence in the field, we support and encourage professional continuing education for massage therapists. By partnering with accredited schools and educational institutions, we help ensure that massage therapy training programs meet the high standards of quality and provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the profession.

Continuing Education and Professional Growth

We recognize that the field of massage therapy is constantly evolving. Therefore, we provide our members with access to a wide range of continuing education opportunities to keep their knowledge and techniques current. Our chapter regularly hosts workshops, seminars, and training sessions on the latest research, modalities, and best practices, empowering our members to expand their expertise and grow their careers. These classes also help New York massage therapists to obtain CEHs (Continuing Education Hours) to use toward their mandated 36 CEHs required every three years.

Legislative Advocacy and Public Awareness

Our chapter is actively involved in legislative efforts to protect and advance the massage therapy profession in New York. We work with state and local government agencies to shape policies that support the interests of massage therapists and protect the public. Through public education initiatives, we strive to increase awareness about the benefits of massage therapy, helping to dispel misconceptions and encouraging more people to seek massage as a part of their overall wellness routine.

Building a Strong Professional Community

Fostering a sense of community among our members is a key priority. We provide networking opportunities, peer support, and professional resources to help our members connect, share experiences, and collaborate. By strengthening this professional network, we create an environment where massage therapists can thrive, support each other, and contribute to the growth and success of the industry.

The AMTA New York Chapter is more than just a professional association — it is a driving force behind the advancement and recognition of massage therapy in our state. Through our commitment to professional standards, education, advocacy, and community building, we empower our members to excel in their practice and help integrate massage therapy into the broader landscape of health and wellness.
