Chapter volunteers are required to submit all receipts and mileage tracking for reimbursement within 30 days of the event. Please request a form by emailing finance@amta-ny.org.

BOARD of DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors are elected to office for two-year terms. The time commitment includes monthly conference calls, seasonal meetings, strategic planning and budget planning, along with providing guidance for the Program Chairs. The following is a list of our Chapter Board positions. These volunteer positions are elected positions where you submit a head shot and a bio explaining your career path and why you'd like to be on the Chapter Board. Online elections are held during the month of March so members can vote in the weeks leading up to our Annual Meeting that takes place in April. This way, we can announce our new Board at the Annual Meeting.

    • President-
      The Chapter President sets the direction and pace of the Chapter’s activities based on the vision that has been determined by the Chapter membership, Chapter Board, and other Chapter Officers. The Chapter President serves as a leader, planner, mentor, mediator, and facilitator.

      Eligibility:
      In addition to being a Professional member in good standing and signing the Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct, she/he must meet one or more of the following requirements:

      - Completed one term year as a Chapter Board member within the last three years.

      - Completed one term year as a Chapter committee chair or member within the last two years.

      - Completed one term year as a National Board member, National Standing Committee Chair or National Standing Committee member within the last two years.

    • 2 Board Members
      Chapter Board Member will assist the Chapter President in achieving Chapter goals and implementing decisions made by the Chapter Board.

      Eligibility:

      In addition to being a Professional member in good standing and signing the Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct, she/he must meet the following requirement:

      -Completed one year of AMTA membership.

    • Secretary
      The Chapter Secretary is the official keeper of the Chapter records and is responsible for recording, maintaining and updating Chapter records during her/his term of office.

      Eligibility:

      In addition to being a Professional member in good standing and signing the Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct, she/he must meet the following requirement:

      - Completed one year of AMTA membership

    • Financial Administrator
      The Chapter Financial Administrator supports the financial operations of the Chapter.

      Eligibility:

      In addition to being a Professional member in good standing, and signing the Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct, she/he must meet one or more of the following requirements:

      -Completed one term year as a Chapter Board member within the last three years.

      -Completed one term year as a Chapter committee chair or member, within the last two years.

      -Completed one term year as a National Board member, National Standing Committee Chair or National Standing Committee member within the last two years.

Delegates (2)

  • Delegates represent the massage therapy profession in the Assembly of Delegates {AOD) and related activities as they pertain to the profession in their state.While not an eligibility requirement, the Delegate position should not be considered as an “entry level” volunteer position. Applicants for the position of Delegate are encouraged to consider the following questions when choosing to
    become a candidate for the position.
    1. What is the context of health and wellness in my state?
    2. What are the things that are impacting massage therapy in my state? (including but not limited to):
    a. Education requirements
    b. Regulation
    c. Continuing education
    d. Cultural issues
    e. Socio-economics
    f. Diversity
    g. Employment practices

    Eligibility:

    In addition to being a Professional member in good standing, and signing the Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct, she/he must meet one or more of the following requirements:

    • Must be a professional member in good standing for at least 1 year

    • Must be assigned to the Chapter they are elected to serve

    • Must have a basic understanding of technology (e.g. email, online discussion boards, mobile applications)

    • Must sign the AMTA Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct and AOD Code of Conduct.

    • Shall not be an AMTA National Board member, National Standing Committee Chair, National Commission Chair, or the Moderator of the Assembly of Delegates

Education Committee

The Education Committee makes recommendations to the Chapter Board of Directors for presenters at chapter educational events. They recruit, communicate, and contract with potential presenters, and ensure that all educational presenters and events meet AMTA’s high standard. The Education Committee assists with the Chapter annual convention, working closely with the Convention Chair and the Chapter Event Planner.

Convention Committee

The Convention Committee is a vital element of the New York Chapter. A conference is a one or multi-day event designated as such by the Chapter Board. It may include, but not be limited to, one or more of the following: continuing education, meals, entertainment, exhibitors, and the Board of Directors meeting. Currently, the chapter holds the AMTA-NY Convention & Annual Meeting in the spring, and may offer additional educational events throughout the year across the state.

Government Relations Committee

Government Relations Committee advances the interests of the massage profession in the area of government regulation. This committee may work with other massage and bodywork associations or groups, massage schools and training programs, state agencies and departments, lobbyists, and local governments. The committee also keeps track of potential upcoming changes in massage therapy legislation and communicates this with our members as needed.

Member Engagement Committee

The ME Committee plans and coordinates the production and dissemination of the Chapter newsletter and Member Spotlight and ensures that they meet appropriate quality and standards The primary goals of the committee are to encourage and maintain membership by promoting the benefits of AMTA and to recruit chapter volunteers. This is accomplished in several ways, such as conducting school visits, hosting local Meet-Ups, and communicating with members via phone calls, emails, and social media.

The success of our chapter is attributed to our members especially those who volunteer. There are several areas and committees to serve and volunteers are connected to the committee or work group that best suits their interests.
